MorphoTrust USA to supply CAT/BPSS to TSA

MorphoTrust has announced that they were selected by U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to supply new technology for improving the security screening process of airline passengers.

MorphoTrust’s new system called Credential Authentication Technology/Boarding Pass Scanning System (CAT/BPSS) is in pilot stage now in two U.S. airports: Washington Dulles International Airport and Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport. Luis Muñoz Marin International Airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico, is the first airport outside the continental U.S. to test CAT/BPSS.

CAT/BPSS detects fake documents and IDs. The verification process starts with the passenger handing over their ID to the TSA Travel Document Checker, who will scan it, while the passenger scans their boarding pass using a built-in scanner. CAT/BPSS will compare both documents for consistency and ensure that the information on both match and have not been tampered with. Once confirmed, the displayed data, including photo, will be permanently deleted, as part of TSA’s commitment in securing passenger’s privacy.

The system can also work for passengers with boarding passes printed on a PC or those using paperless boarding passes such as on smart phones.

The use of CAT/BPSS is in line with TSA’s efforts in “improving passenger experience at security checkpoints by applying new intelligence-driven, risk-based screening procedures and enhancing its use of technology.”

In April, MorphoTrust was awarded as the prime contractor for TSA’s new Universal Enrollment Service, transitioning multiple programs into a consolidated service for individuals requiring enrollment and registration for programs serviced by TSA.
